Every Mind Speech graphic

Welcome!

At Every Mind Speech, we believe every child deserves a voice. We are a boutique speech therapy practice in the suburbs of NYC that specializes in working with autistic and neurodivergent children.

We are neurodiversity-affirming, which means we believe that the natural differences in how we think, feel, behave, and relate to others are what makes each person unique and valuable.

Every Mind Speech empowers children and families to be confident communicators.

And the best part? We Have convenient service locations to meet your needs!

Our Specialized Therapy Services

Our approach to speech therapy for kids is highly personalized. By focusing on your child's strengths, we will build new skills by engaging all of the sensory systems through movement, interactive games, and play.

We also strive to create a safe emotional and physical environment to support communication development in a way that inspires your child to engage in the learning process.

At Every Mind Speech, parent involvement is a cornerstone of our speech therapy services. We take time for parent coaching and education every session. One-on-one parent coaching sessions are also available for parents who want focused time with Rachel.

Late Talkers

Delays in early communication skills can be frustrating for both you and your child. Speech therapy for late talkers builds skills to help your child express themselves while also teaching parents how to support development at home.

Therapy will help your child:

  • feel less frustrated

  • communicate their wants, needs, and ideas

  • interact with peers

  • develop foundational skills for reading and writing

We honor all forms of communication, from spoken words, gestures, writing, and AAC. Our goal is to help your child feel understood!

Delayed Echolalia / Scripting

Is your child repeating language from TV shows, songs, or movies? Echolalia is natural language development! Speech therapy for children who script starts by acknowledging all communication attempts while uncovering the underlying meaning of what they are saying.

During our sessions, we will:

  • empower your child to share their ideas

  • build language skills for reading, writing, and storytelling

  • guide your child to use original language to communicate

At Every Mind Speech, therapy is always collaborative. We will work with you and your child to understand and expand their communication.

Social Communication & Play

Play is how children learn, explore the world, and connect with others. By introducing new play experiences, your child can develop positive social and emotional communication skills.

Therapy for social and play skills will help you and your child learn how to:

  • incorporate strategies that promote perspective-taking and self-advocacy

  • teach self-regulation strategies through play

  • develop flexible thinking to solve problems independently

Our goal is to reduce social anxiety and increase self-understanding. We will help your child build their confidence and connect with others.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech

If speech seems like a physical challenge for your child, Every Mind Speech can help! Speech therapy for apraxia focuses on speech production through new motor plans. We use motor planning approaches based on the principles of motor learning, such as Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC).

Speech therapy will help your child speak more clearly by using engaging and repetitive practice to:

  • improve the sequencing and coordination of motor movements rather than only focusing on individual sounds

  • increase speech clarity for important words and names

  • increase confidence and reduce frustration

We are now offering group classes!

Meet Your Speech Therapist

Rachel Gorman M.S. CCC-SLP TSSLD

Founder, Speech-Language Pathologist

Rachel is a compassionate and playful speech therapist with a superpower for developing strong relationships. She is neurodivergent herself and is the mother of two neurodivergent children. Her children taught her how to see the world and herself through different eyes and inspired her to start her own practice. Every Mind Speech was created to support families like Rachel’s who need a different type of therapy approach.

Rachel listens to parents and children to meet them where they are at. She uses collaborative problem solving to find solutions and help families thrive. As a university-trained dancer, Rachel enjoys the place where movement and language intersect. She uses this background and training to support clients in moving their whole bodies to develop speech and language naturally.

Outside of work, you can find Rachel nerding out reading books, filling her sensory bucket with tons of movement, and hiking with her family and their dog, Wylie.

Testimonials

Rachel really figures out how to connect to each kid where they are at and has a talent for noticing what will work for each individual.

"My daughter was in speech therapy for 9 years, from ages 3-12.  She had 6 different speech therapists over those years, and all of them were lovely.  But, at age 11-- when Covid prevented 2 months of speech therapy until they made a safe plan at her speech office-- we had a couple of Zoom speech sessions with Rachel, and it was like a lightbulb went off in my daughter.  She really started getting all the things that had been like brain obstacles to understanding how to achieve certain sounds.  Rachel gave her "homework" and some tools to work with on her own, and that was really the beginning of the end of her speech therapy journey.  She "graduated" from her IEP and has been able to apply all she learned on a consistent basis over the last 2 years.  Rachel really figures out how to connect to each kid where they are at and has a talent for noticing what will work for each individual. Thank you, Rachel!"
